come
the olive branch//reconciliation
Overcast is a cry out to God, while Come documents His response.
In the parable of the prodigal son, a man’s younger son asks for his inheritance early and squanders it on ridiculous things. Eventually, his choices leave him sleeping in a pig pen, starving. He decides to go back to his father’s house and ask to be hired as a servant. To his surprise, his father runs to him and embraces him. His father celebrates his return and throws a party. “For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.”
Come is a peek into my journey as a prodigal child after a season of warring with God. It’s tempting to think that I need to clean myself up and sort through all my emotions before God will accept me. But He doesn’t respond to me with anger or disgust. Instead, He wraps us in His arms and loves us just as we are. He’s not overwhelmed or ashamed, even when we are. His love is inevitable, just like the promise of a new spring.
For the final part of April, I placed an olive branch in hopes you’ll see reconciliation in the relationships in your life and because a good bouquet is made up of more than flowers!

lyrics:
On an evening in March, I cried out to the Lord
Numbed by the pain, tired of this world
Cursing myself and all my mistakes
Believing that there’s no hope for me
At the end of my rope, when I felt a presence and there was a voice like a gentle wind
It pierced through the dark and He sang to me
“My darling child, come to me and be free
Come with your anger
Come with your shame
Come with your failures
Come with your pain
Come as you are now before it’s too late
Come to the Father who restores and sustains
I looked up from the floor
Feeling ashamed
Thought He’d be appalled by my lack of faith
But to my surprise, there were tears on his face
And He wrapped me up in his warm embrace
Come with your weakness
Come with your stains
Come with your heartaches
Come with your complaints
Come as you are now before it’s too late
Come to the Son who can shoulder the pain
If you have doubts, come without fear
If you have burdens, you simply can’t bear,
If you’re weak and weary, come and find rest
If you want new life, come drink and be refreshed
If your wounds have festered, come and be healed
If you’ve been abandoned, you are wanted here
If your crimes are many, I’ve paid for them too
When you reach for me, child, I’m already holding you
Come to the throne of mercy and grace”
On an evening in March, I cried out to the Lord
Numbed by the pain, tired of this world
Cursing myself and all my mistakes
Believing that there’s no hope for me
At the end of my rope, when I felt a presence and there was a voice like a gentle wind
